comScore released some interesting statistics about digital advertising. Though it might be easy to believe the all present Goolge would hold the top spot for display ads maybe it should come as no surprise that the biggest ad network is Facebook, cornering 1 in 4 display ads delivering over 1.3 trillion display ads in 2011.
That’s a big number, the next publisher in line, Yahoo! delivered 529 million impressions and Google trails behind Microsoft at 173,929 million impressions and the majority of those ads were seen on Youtube.
Another staggering fact that comScore reports in their "2012 US Future in Focus Webinar" presentation is that 14.6% of time spent on the internet is spent on Facebook an average of 7 hours per month.
Though we may think Google is the big dog in advertising, with Google Adsense and their acquisition of Admob it is clear that Facebook is the preferred advertising platform for marketers. One of the reasons is that Facebook has collected more refined information about their users, and this information can then be used by advertisers to target, by demographics and interests, specific target markets. Advertisers using Facebook ads not only create brand awareness, they can also find those consumers ready to purchase their products.
As you consider where to advertise your products and services you may want to consider placing ads on Facebook and experimenting with the placement of ads and track your result to see what the audience response is. Facebook users are accessing their social sites from home and on their mobile devices and most are spending more time on Facebook than they are anywhere else.
